Bob Balfe’s Opening Round Upset (11) Gonzaga +2 over St. Johns (6)

Opening Round Upset Pick from Bob Balfe on Vimeo.

Gonzaga +2 over St. Johns
Gonzaga went out and played a tough schedule early in the year and I think it will help them tremendously in the NCAA Tournament. St. Johns will be without Kennedy who is one of their best players and the only real positive this team has going for them is they have a lot of seniors on the court. Gonzaga has a huge size advantage and they are better in all scoring categories. On defense the Bulldogs will grab a lot of rebounds and make sure St. Johns does not get second chances. Seniors can keep you in the game, but Gonzaga is on a huge run winning nine straight and are a much better basketball team at this point in time. Take Gonzaga.

Bob Balfe takes Pittsburgh 6-1 Odds to Win NCAA Title

March 16, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

Wager on Pittsburgh at 6/1 Odds

Pittsburgh is at 6/1 to win the NCAA Championship. Coach Jamie Dixon has done numbers with this program and this school has been so close year after year. Pitt has the players to spread the floor and they share the ball well. This team has a lot of experience and has good size. The Panthers are good at rebounding and they do not turn the ball over much and the defense does not allow much scoring. Pittsburgh is a little under the radar as the least talked about #1 seed. I like Pittsburgh to cut down the nets on April 4th.

Bob Balfe’s Texas San Antonio vs. Alabama State Free Winner 3/16/2011

Wednesday Free NCAA Winner from Bob Balfe on Vimeo.

NCAA Basketball
Texas San Antonio -3.5 over Alabama State
Alabama State played in a horrible conference and are the worst shooting and scoring team in the tournament. This team is horrible for the foul line and the 3 point line and turns the ball over about 15 times per game. Texas San Antonio is good from behind the arc and the foul line. This should be another sloppy game, but at least it’s the last of them before the tournament tips of tomorrow. Take Texas San Antonio.

NCAA Basketball
NC Asheville -4 over Ark Little Rock
The winner of this game will have the luxury of facing Pittsburgh for an early exit on Thursday. The key to this matchup is size and athleticism. UNC Asheville will be without their center Cunningham, but are lucky to be facing a small team that doesn’t get a lot of blocks or steals. UNC Asheville is also among the best in the nation at getting steals and they should have a nice rebounding edge tonight. This team is on average about 2 inches taller and 13 pounds heavier per man for the players that will be on the court most of the night. UNC Ashville is also a little better from the foul line. If they can minimize their turnovers (15 per game), they should win this by double digits. The only way they lose this game is if they beat themselves. Take UNC Asheville.

UAB +4.5 over Clemson
You could switch uniforms and you would not even know it. These teams are almost identical to each other in a lot of areas of the game. Both play great defense and are great against the 3 ball. I would suggest the Under tonight, but I am afraid this game is going to be so close we could get OT. This line should be a PK. Clemson is a little more athletic coming from a better conference, but the Blazers are great from the foul line and a little better in the assist-to-turnover ratio. This game should come down to the wire and I feel like 4.5 points is a good value for us. Take UAB.

Duke -3.5 over UNC
This is going to be a great game between two schools who are fighting for a top spot in the NCAA Tournament. Both teams are evenly matched, but I am going to give the edge to Singler and Smith both who are seniors for Duke over Zeller and the freshman Barnes who is coming off his best game yet against Clemson. UNC has two huge comebacks the last few days. If Duke gets a big lead their will be no comeback. Take Duke

Florida -1.5 over Kentucky
This is going to be another great game, but Kentucky is probably going to be without Lamb and I like Florida’s size and quickness. Teams have to be at full strength to have a shot at winning the conference. Kentucky is a little banged up and it will hurt them today. Take Florida.

Richmond -4 over Dayton
Richmond won the earlier meetings this year and won on the road in Dayton which is usually a tough place to play. Dayton is not a good road team and I do not think Dayton as a 9 seed is as good as Richmond. Dayton had an easy road to the title game after beating a Xavier team that did not take them seriously. Richmond will and should go dancing into the NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State -9.5 over Penn State
Although I am very mad that Ohio State blew the cover for us as they were up 17 with under 2 minutes left the fact is they are the #1 team in the nation playing against a PSU team that cant score and cant rebound the ball. Sure PSU is good one defense, but OSU is even better. There is not one area PSU is superior in and if OSU does not seal the deal winning the BIG 10 Championships then they should not get a #1 seed in the tournament. A loss today just might bump them to a #2 seed. Look for OSU to not make the same mistake as yesterday late in the game. Take Ohio State.

NBA Basketball
Mavs -1 over Lakers
Dallas is a team that is flying under the radar. The Lakers are always going to be the favorite with Kobe on their side, but this Dallas team is awesome at home and can beat you in so many different ways. I like how Dallas has been playing and think today guys off the bench will have a big impact in this game. Take the Mavs.

College Basketball
Ohio State -11 over Michigan
Michigan won yesterday over Illinois, but I would say it was more of a collapse on Illinois part then anything. Ohio State is a much better team and after their scare yesterday for Northwestern they will be all business today. Take the Buckeyes in a easy win.

Michigan State -2.5 over Penn State
Penn State scored 36 points and won yesterday. I guess on the flipside you could say if you give up only 33 you should win every game, but Michigan State is on a roll right now and the Tom Izzo factor is huge in this game. Penn State just does not have enough firepower to stay in this game. Take Michigan State

Kansas -4 over Texas
What a great game this will be between two powerhouses. Texas won the earlier meeting this year, but the Morris Brothers are playing great right now and Kansas is just a better all around team then the Longhorns. This game will be close however the hot shooting and excellent ball movement from the Jayhawks will be the difference. Take Kansas.

Uconn +1 over Louisville
Kemba Walker. That’s all that really has to be said. This team is peaking at the right time and I would not be shocked to see them go far in the NCAA tournament. I believe they are something like 35/1 to win the whole thing. Not a bad dark horse team to throw a little money on. Uconn is playing great ball and we must ride this epic run by the Huskies. Take Uconn.

Boston -10 over Stony Brook
Stony Brook is playing on borrowed time. Boston is a much better team and truly belongs in this game. Stony Brook hit a few teams napping in the tournament and should be out played on the road in what is a true home game for Boston U. This should not even be close. Take Boston U.

Bob Balfe’s Big East Tournament Friday NCAA Basketball Free Winner : Uconn vs. Syracuse

March 11, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

Bob Balfe’s Friday NCAA Free Pick : Syracuse vs UConn from Bob Balfe on Vimeo.

Syracuse -3 over Uconn
Uconn played a great game yesterday winning at the buzzer. The best player on the floor maybe Walker and I really think the winner of this game has a great shot at advancing very far in the NCAA Tournament that starts next week. This is going to be a great game between two well coached teams, but Syracuse is a more balanced team and should get the win. Take Syracuse.

Bob Balfe’s BIG 12 Conference Wednesday Free NCAA Basketball Winner : Oklahoma State vs Nebraksa

March 9, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

Untitled from Bob Balfe on Vimeo.

Nebraksa -4 over Oklahoma State
Nebraska needs to win a few games to get into the tournament. The Cornhuskers are better on both offense and defense and know that they have to win this game or they are out. This is a good team right on the bubble that is going to have to win today and probably their next game to get in. The lack of shooting 3 pointers and the good defense by Nebraska should be the difference.

Bob Balfe’s Colonial Conference Championship Free Pick: VA Commonwealth vs. Old Dominion

March 7, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

Watch Bob’s Free Pick Video

Old Dominion -4.5 over VA Commonwealth
Old Dominion is going to play in the tournament, win or lose. If VA Commonwealth loses, they will have a tough time making an at-large bid. I wouldn’t say VA Commonwealth is hungrier because this was the goal for both teams all season to win their conference. Old Dominion plays great defense and is one of the best rebounding teams in the country. The phrase, “defense wins championships” is true and I think the pressure is just too great on VA Commonwealth. I have not been a fan of their defense the last few weeks and think Old Dominion is a much more superior team at this point in the season. Take Old Dominion. Watch Bob explain why Old Dominion will win
